UX
AXIS is a UX management platform for video on demand and OTT streaming services. It’s many clients were spread across the globe but for the first time, it was being implemented in the EMEA region.
This presented a problem; a platform initially designed for Australia and rolled out in UK, Western Europe, Asia and America was not ready for EMEA users.
My task was to create guidelines that the design, development and QA teams could apply to wireframes in order to understand how the layout would adapt for Right-to-Left languages.
UX GOALS
Identify areas with complex integration;
Don’t exponentially increase or address outdated wireframes;
Focus on ‘best practice’ rather than client requirements.
PRODUCT GOALS
Provide a single source of truth;
Minimise changes for users consuming content in left-to-right languages;
Demo to clients that AXIS could support Arabic languages.

I combined the information I gathered into a guideline that documents the major exceptions between the interfaces, complete with supporting examples. Here are some of those examples below.

ADVICE ON LOCALISATION
Advise clients to use regional imagery and create content specifically for right-to-left languages. Relying on direct translations will not suffice.
Allow users to search in both English and right-to-left languages if both keyboards are enabled on the device.
Keep URLs to English for the first development phase as most users are consumers of more than one international OTT service.
